To Inspire

Genealogy is a great hobby. Always something new to find whether it be a new name, story or event in history. I hope this inspires you a little bit to find out something new about your family and pass it on so the history doesn't get lost. If your new to my blog, please see the tab "Archive Index" - these are all my past articles. Enjoy!

Tips - Group Shots

When you are looking through old picture books or boxes. Some of the best pictures are to pull out are the group shots.  Some you may not realize at the time are pretty good genealogy photos!  There are usually generation shots, family shots, sibling shots, and reunion shots.  If you don't know all the people in the photo, try to ask a relative because they can usually pick someone out in it, and you may be able to connect the dots!  Here are some great examples of these types of group shots to look for!

Four Generations (me as a baby!) and it's dated! Even better!

Child is my Grandpa Altonen with his father (GGrandpa Niilo Altonen).  One standing in back is Niilo's brother and guessing the other is a son or cousin - not sure. It was taken in Canada and the brother died at young age.

Family Farm Picture

All Godell brothers that came to America - showing how they are doing here with
car's and suits and house. Very telling photograph!

Family picture with all sisters and brothers

There are 3 generations in this photo.  My Grandpa is young boy, his parents are behind him (My GGrandparents), and on the far left are my GGrandmothers parent's ( My GGGrandparents)

Family shot, but also 3 generations.  There are 3 families in this shot too. Grandparents with their two son's, and they are  with their families.

All brothers and sister - Appleby's
